Band and live-room recording

Your band plays together in our live room while we space mics on drums, bass and cabs, run the patch and keep individual headphone mixes under control.

Band with drums and guitars in live room with microphones set up.

Tracking a band means space, timing and signal flow. Nubilosegate offers a roughly 36 m² live room in East Amsterdam with up to 24 mic inputs and a patch bay into the control room. You play like on stage, with isolation and levels managed.

The service targets bands and projects that want songs captured live, need to replace demos or want bass, drums and amps printed in one session. Editing and mixing are separate; we still align recording day and exports so your mixer can start immediately.

How it works

  1. 01

    Plan

Send setlist, lineup and preferred date via contact. We reply within 3 business days with a proposal under terms and conditions. Read planning a band recording day too.

  2. 02

    Load-in

On the session day we place drums, amps and DIs from your input list. Basic mic placement and headphone mixes are included on the day rate; extra time bills hourly.

  3. 03

    Takes

We capture full-band passes and optional overdubs in the same room or the vocal booth. The engineer marks takes and manages spill between sources.

  4. 04

    Stems

After wrap we export agreed multitrack WAV per channel or a session for your DAW. Delivery usually within a few business days; archive 18 months on our storage.

Live room and workflow

The live room is the core of Band and live-room recording at Nubilosegate: brick, curtains and floor marks keep positions consistent between takes. Guitars run through cabs or DI beside the amp; bass often combines DI and room mic. Drums get a standard kit mic layout adjusted per genre.

Signals route through the patch bay to preamps in the control room — flexible without re-cabling mid take. See planning a band recording day for song order and break planning.

Lineups we usually host

Typical bookings: rock trio to quintet, funk combo, jazz combo with amplified guitars, or session bands aiming for one EP track per day. Larger ensembles or horn sections sometimes fit with extra DIs and planning — mention it in your request.

Drums-only or amps-only without a full band is fine on hourly or day rates. Live vocals in the room are possible; many bands book vocal sessions in the booth afterward for cleaner leads.

Headphone mixes and monitoring

Each player gets a mix with adjustable balances. We have 6 sends; for larger lineups we rotate or bring an extra distro by arrangement. Click and backing from Pro Tools or Reaper are standard.

The engineer hears the room on monitors and can comment on dynamics or arrangement between takes. We are not a casual rehearsal room — arrive prepared with tempos and parts clear.

Band preparation

Send ahead: setlist in recording order, amp and pedal list, desired drum tone (reference links via contact), and who doubles what. Tune guitars and swap strings where needed — old strings sound dull on close mics.

Bring instruments, picks, sticks and tuners. We do not stock a full backline for every style; a basic kit is ready but your snare or cymbals are welcome. Minimum participant age: 18.

Delivery and mix-ready material

Default delivery is labelled WAV per channel, 24-bit / 48 kHz, with a session start reference. On request we supply a Pro Tools or Reaper session folder. If you mix yourself or use our mixing service, read delivering stems for mixing.

Editing such as drum comping during the booked day is possible by arrangement; heavy editing afterward is outside the day rate. Mastering is mastering — booked separately.

Day rate versus hourly

The day rate covers eight studio hours with basic setup included — suited to three to five songs when the band is prepared. Shorter sessions or overdub-only work on hourly billing.

35% deposit on confirmation. Free cancellation up to 5 days ahead. B2B clients: payment within 30 days when agreed.

Revisions, archive and exclusions

Re-tracking one song the same day may fit if time remains; extra days need a new booking. Mix revisions follow up to 3 rounds when you hire mix here — not automatic on tracking day.

Not included: backline hire beyond the basic kit, on-location tech outside the studio, video, guest musicians without their own agreement with you, parking. Address: Czaar Peterstraat 104, 1018 RR Amsterdam. Directions: Nubilosegate is on Czaar Peterstraat in Amsterdam East. Tram 10 stops at Czaar Peterstraat; from there it is about a three-minute walk. From Amsterdam Centraal it is roughly fifteen minutes on tram 10. You can park bicycles at the entrance; cars use paid street parking or Q-Park Oostpoort, a little over ten minutes on foot..

FAQ

How many songs can we finish in a day?

With a prepared band, three to five songs in eight hours including setup and short breaks is realistic. Complex arrangements or many overdubs reduce that — plan an extra half day instead.

Can we use our own amps?

Yes — own amps and pedalboards are common. We place mics and DIs and ask for stable power and grounded cables. Extreme volume needs should be discussed upfront via [email protected].

Can we mix the raw session ourselves?

Sure. We deliver stems as agreed; delivering stems for mixing covers naming and folders. You can also book mixing with us.

What if a member arrives late?

Studio time runs from the booked start. Late arrivals shorten effective tracking time; we still try to use the remaining hours efficiently.

Room for friends or an audience?

A few visitors in the control room are usually fine; the live room stays quiet for spill and safety. Mention more than two guests when booking.
