Mixing

We shape your recordings into a mix where every part has space — attended in our control room or offline with interim bounces for feedback.

Mixing is where separate takes become a song: levels, panning, EQ, compression and effects are set so vocals, drums, bass and instruments support each other instead of fighting. At Nubilosegate in Amsterdam East we handle projects tracked in our live room or vocal booth, and stems you produced elsewhere.

Choose a fixed price per song — covering up to roughly 56 tracks per title — or book attended time at an hourly rate while you listen and comment in real time. Both paths end with a stereo mix you can send to mastering or use as-is.

How it works

  1. 01

    Brief

Send tempo, references and a stem list via contact. Within 3 business days you receive a quote and schedule.

  2. 02

    Stem check

We verify length, sample rate, clipping and naming. Missing info is cleared before mixing starts — see delivering stems for mixing.

  3. 03

    Mix work

Offline we build balance and space; attended you sit with our engineer and adjust until the booked time ends.

  4. 04

    Delivery

You get a stereo mixdown and, on request, a short note on headroom for mastering. Revisions follow terms and conditions.

Who it is for

The mixing service suits solo artists with home-studio beats, bands that cut drums and guitars in our 36 m² live room, and producers who want another pair of ears on the final balance. Spoken-word and podcast material can also land here when you need one coherent stereo file for release.

Only raw takes without edits? We allow time for comping and fades, or you deliver consolidated stems. Unsure between mix and mastering: mixing balances the internal parts; mastering prepares level and tone for streaming — both are listed on our services page.

Offline or attended

Offline mixing at €205 per song means our engineer works from your brief and references. You receive interim exports (typically a first balance and a revised pass) and send written feedback by email. Good when you are flexible on timing or based outside Amsterdam.

Attended mixing is €98 per hour in the control room during Tue–Fri 10–21, Sat 11–17. You hear the same monitors, ask questions immediately and avoid long email threads. A three- to four-minute pop track with a moderate track count often needs roughly three to five attended hours, depending on how ready your files are.

Delivering stems and sessions

Supply WAV files, preferably 24-bit 48 kHz, all starting at the same point (bar 1, beat 1). Avoid printing effects you may want to change later unless that is part of your sound on purpose. Name stems clearly: Kick, Snare_Top, Vox_Lead, and so on.

Our guide delivering stems for mixing covers folder layout, zip or cloud links and what we do when sample rates differ. Material recorded here stays in the archive for 18 months; external projects are kept after delivery only if agreed separately.

What happens in the mix

We start with gain staging and a rough balance, then panning and EQ so frequencies do not mask each other. Dynamics (compression, gates where needed) keep vocals and drums controlled without flattening the track. Reverb and delay sit in a space that matches your references — not a default preset on everything.

Vocals get attention for de-essing, level between verse and chorus and any doubles. Drums: relative punch of kick and snare, overheads and room. Bass and guitars are set so the low end holds weight without swallowing the kick. We do not mix on earbuds; you still get an mp3 checklist to audition at home before sign-off.

Delivery and formats

By default we deliver a stereo WAV mix, 24-bit, same sample rate as your source (usually 48 kHz). On request we add an mp3 for quick sharing. Instrumental or TV mixes are only done if quoted upfront.

Download link or hand-off on your drive: we use encrypted links and remove temporary uploads after confirmation. For mastering we recommend a mix without a limiter on the master bus and a few dB of headroom — see streaming master requirements.

Revision rounds

3 revision rounds per song are included within the agreed mix price or booked attended hours. One round means one bundled list of changes (not ten separate emails per day). Larger shifts — extra stems, new recordings, a different arrangement — are quoted as additional work at hourly or per-track rates.

After approval the mix is considered finished. If you want tweaks months later, we check whether the project is still in the archive and quote a reopen.

Not included

Mastering, vocal editing, tuning, time-stretching entire sessions, drum sample replacement and musical arranging sit outside standard mixing. Re-exporting dozens of stems from a broken session is not mix work either — we quote that separately.

You clear samples and cover rights; we only process material you are allowed to share. Upload privacy: privacy policy. General questions: FAQ.

FAQ

How many tracks fit one song price?

€205 covers one title with up to about 56 tracks. Larger stem counts or long ambient projects need a quote via contact before you export.

Can I book only attended hours?

Yes. Attended mixing is billed at €98 per booked hour, one hour minimum. Longer blocks are scheduled by appointment (Tuesday to Friday 10:00–21:00, Saturday 11:00–17:00. Closed Monday and Sunday. Sessions by appointment.).

Do you deliver the DAW session?

Not by default: you receive the stereo mix. On request we may send a project archive if our plugins allow; that can be extra work.

How fast is the turnaround?

Offline: usually within a few business days after approved stems, depending on queue. Attended: same day. We confirm timing in your quote within 3 business days.

Is mastering included?

Mastering is separate at €92 per song. Many clients mix here then move to mastering — see streaming specs.
